2.6 Catholic Social Teaching and our Mission
Our ministry of leadership and service isn't just underpinned by values, shared with similar government or other non-government agencies, but by Church social teachings and principles. These principles should shape and guide all our relationships and decisions.
Subsidiarity and participation
These principles have real implications for our work. You will quickly become aware of how leadership at a diocesan level is respectful of the responsibility of local communities and people to discern how God's mission should find expression in their local context. Values such as efficiency and effectiveness which are legitimate values in their own right, must sometimes be secondary to the principle of subsidiarity. There are decisions which are most properly made at the local level, just as there are decisions which are most properly made at the diocesan level.
